National Workshop on Cryptology – 2003
(An annual event of the Cryptology Research Society of India)
Theme of the workshop
Cryptography was until recently an exclusive domain of the defence and security agencies. However with the explosive growth of computerization, networking and the Internet coupled with the increasing importance of electronic commerce, cryptography has become an essential component of all electronic data exchange and economic activity. Recently India has become one of the first few countries to pass the Information Technology Act, leading to the creation of Certification Authorities that issue legally valid Digital certificates. The spread of Internet and mobile communication systems has brought cryptography into the public domain.
The present workshop, being organized by the AU-KBC Research Centre, is the annual event of the CRSI. The previous two CRSI workshops were conducted at ISI Calcutta and ISI Delhi in October 2001 and 2002 respectively. This year’s Workshop will have the theme "Applications of cryptology to Information Security", and would consist of presentations on this theme by invited speakers. There will be invited lectures on "Attacks on Stream Ciphers", as stream ciphers are of great interest in emerging applications of wireless technologies owing to their ease of implementation and speed. There would also be presentations of contributed research papers spread out over the three days.
