COURSE BACKGROUND
                     Wireless technologies have become the order of the day with the booming global mobile communications market. It is predicted that the number of subscribers will reach the one-billion mark by 2005. The evolution of third generation wireless systems into fourth generation systems that can support voice, video and data communications is expected in the near future. The wireless LAN market is also growing at a rapid pace for indoor environments and hot-spots and also as a complementary service to the existing Wireless systems. It augurs well for a student with communication background to have a good understanding of these technologies. 

                      The wireless course with the interactive theory classes will expose the students to the state-of-art technologies in the wireless arena. The Laboratory experiments and demos planned will enable the students to gain a clear understanding of the system details. The AU-KBC Research centre communications group has been working in the area of wireless for the past 3 years. The particular areas of focus have been IEEE 802.11 WLANs, OFDM systems, and advanced research topics. 

                     Close interactions with industry and other academic groups like the TeNet group at IIT Madras has been a feature of our activities. For details please see our involvement in the 802.11 project with Brovis Networks. Several publications have ensued out of our research work and several students have been involved in our work. In addition, the centre has successfully conducted corporate courses in IEEE 802.11 based WLANs Wireless Corporate course and certificate course in Wireless technologies to students.
